CSN – LightWing Messages – 7/24/2022

“But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God— having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people.

They are the kind who worm their way into homes and gain control over gullible women, who are loaded down with sins and are swayed by all kinds of evil desires, always learning but never able to come to a knowledge of the truth. Just as Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses, so also these teachers oppose the truth. They are men of depraved minds, who, as far as the faith is concerned, are rejected. But they will not get very far because, as in the case of those men, their folly will be clear to everyone.                            2 Timothy 1-9 (NIV)

Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter.  Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes and clever in their own sight.

Isaiah 5:20–21

“It was this Court’s own decision in Roe v. Wade to exclude the unborn child from the human family. You ruled that a mother, in consultation with her doctor, has broad discretion, guaranteed against infringement by the United States Constitution, to choose to destroy her unborn child. Your opinion stated that you did not need to ‘resolve the difficult question of when life begins.’

That question is inescapable. If the right to life is an inherent and inalienable right, it must surely exist wherever life exists. No one can deny that the unborn child is a distinct being, that it is human, and that it is alive. It is unjust, therefore, to deprive the unborn child of its fundamental right to life on the basis of its age, size, or condition of dependency. It was a sad infidelity to America’s highest ideals when this Court said that it did not matter, or could not be determined, when the inalienable right to life began for a child in its mother’s womb.  – St. Teresa of Calcutta

At the end of June, the Supreme Court released a number of decisions, which in the words of one of the writers in our network, showed hope that the nation was “becoming a free people” once again. We featured in the last Sunday edition of the LightWing messages a message that Mother Teresa delivered to the United States’ Supreme Court 28 years ago regarding abortion. In that edition, we also featured a number of reactions to the high court overturning the Roe v. Wade decision: https://citizensentinelsnetwork.com/csn-sunday-lightwing-messages-6-26-2022/

This past week, our Sunday edition featured a message from Charles Finney entitled, “The Decay of Conscience.” Although delivered not long after the Civil War, over 100 years ago, the words of Finney could be easily presented as a commentary about today’s America. The decay of conscience is also what Mother Teresa was getting at in her message. Without a connection with God, one’s conscience is anemic, and cannot operate to help such individuals discern good from evil. In our contemporary society, in fact, evil is deemed good and good is deemed evil.

In such a time as this, with such people roaming around in the nation, and many of them, who are in supposedly responsible positions of leadership, it is truly unsettling. Especially, when the criminals are the ones in leadership positions, it can be downright frightening. And, it is clearly observable, not hypothetical. Good people, people of faith need to trust their own eyes and ears and decipher what is truly going on in our nation by using common sense and by using the Bible as a guiding light and a measuring stick.

Today’s edition features another look at the issue of abortion, form another angle. My message briefly compares the Roe v. Wade decision with the Dred Scott decision and a simple premise for each of them. Rev. Charles Finney lived at the time of the Civil War and saw the “moral insanity” of his day,m and we featured that message in an earlier edition in June: https://citizensentinelsnetwork.com/csn-sunday-lightwing-messages-6-12-2022/  My message examines a bit of the history of the two decisions from the standpoint of the mixture of faith into justice. Finney understood that faith needs to be infused into the leadership within any sphere of the society. Mother Teresa was appalled that America’s faith in her founding principles had died and it needed to be revived. I’ll let my message speak for itself.

We hope our readers would consider all the messages in this edition relevant or meaningful and if readers know others who might value them as well, consider becoming an official LightWing messenger and please pass this newsletter on to those whom you feel would welcome it. Or simply, please receive it yourselves. May God bless all of our readers and all loved ones.

Faith Guiding Justice Will Return America to “One Nation Under God”

by Dennis Jamison

July 24, 2022

The recent Supreme Court decision to reverse the federal government’s support of what has become known as “abortion rights,” has essentially created a divisive earthquake throughout  the nation, with people taking sides, and one side taking to intimidating rhetoric, aggressive and  threatening protests, as well as street theater by elected officials. What must be understood is that such recent division is not so recent. The Roe v. Wade decision divided the nation when it was first handed down by the Supreme Court under Chief Justice Warren Burger in 1973. At the time, it was unlikely that the justices may have realized how incredibly divisive and destructive that one decision would render the nation.

Also, make no mistake over how divisive the issue of abortion has grown in the United States.   It is not simply a Democrat vs. Republican issue. Actually, Roe v. Wade was decided by a split  Supreme Court under Warren Burger, who had been appointed by Republican Richard Nixon. Burger served the nation in an equally turbulent time as Watergate became a central focus of headlines in the early 1970s. Though the previous Supreme Court under Chief Justice Earl Warren had primarily been dominated by left-leaning justices, the demeanor of the court shifted somewhat following President Nixon’s appointments. Yet, on Burger’s Court, he and Rehnquist were the only consistent conservatives, while Justices Brennan, Douglas and Marshall generally took leftist positions. The others tried to remain in the centrist realm, and Roe v. Wade was a 7-2 decision. However, Burger supported the majority opinion.

A closer look at the recent “Dobbs decision” under Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts indicates that the conservative Catholic roots of the justices may have played a more significant role in this court sending the decision-making capabilities to determine the legality of abortion back to the states. On this current court, there are six who were raised Catholic: John Roberts, Samuel Alito, Clarence Thomas, Brett Kavanaugh, Neil Gorsuch, and Amy Coney Barrett. And though Justice Sotomayor was raised Catholic, she leans left. Additionally, there have been a number of Jewish justices appointed to the high court, but recent ones, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Elena Kagan, and Stephen Breyer are all non-Orthodox Jews who also lean to the left. When Breyer retired, one of his former law clerks replaced him: Ketanji Brown Jackson. She claims to be a nondenominational Protestant.

Essentially, it is not what people claim to be, or what they “identify with,” that drives faith within to be expressed outwardly. Although many people use religion as a cloak; it’s not their lifestyle. The mix of faith and justice remains complex in a highly toxic political environment where faith  or ideology now seem to pressure decisions of the high court, either from within or from the outside. In fact, although the six justices were raised Catholic, they hold conservative values and act that way. Faith as a lifestyle is beyond belonging to a particular religion or denomination.

It should be remembered that Catholic Justice William Brennan, appointed by Eisenhower, was one of the left-leaning leaders of the Burger Court whose reported intellectual dominance of that court was quite influential in the Roe v.Wade decision. Additionally, it should also be noted that Chief Justice Roger B. Taney was a Catholic from Maryland, and he wrote the majority opinion in the divisive Dred Scott decision delivered by his Supreme Court on March 6, 1857. That decision also was not rooted in faith or fundamental Christian principles.

While the Supreme Court was dominated by the “Democratic” Party, it was easy to pass the  Dred Scott decision. It was a 7-2 decision as well. The wealthy, elitist slave owners intended to close the door on the slavery debate. Yet, at its heart, the Dred Scott decision, represented the view that African-Americans were not fully human. In his prevailing opinion, Chief Justice Taney held that African-Americans, whether they had been freed or enslaved, had never been granted any rights as citizens under the U.S.  Constitution. Hisbasic  attitude was that Blacks had been “regarded as beings of an inferior order, altogether unfit to associate with the white race … and so far inferior, that they had no rights which the white man was bound to respect.”

The Dred Scott decision further divided the states, which was the opposite intent of the southern Democrats and their puppet justices on the high court. The decision essentially exacerbated the divisiveness within the nation as it received scathing criticism in the North. Associate Justice Benjamin Robbins Curtis resigned in protest over the decision. Nevertheless, it strengthened the abolitionist movement. It increased the popularity of the anti-slavery Republican Party. It led to prominent Republicans rejecting Taney’s politically-tainted legal reasoning. It led to Abraham Lincoln re-examining the founding documents and arguing that the Declaration of Independence proclaimed that the Founding Fathers had advocated for the protection of individual rights for all free men, regardless of race.

Abraham Lincoln perceived the danger that the nationalization of slavery posed to the Union, and he realized the need to go back to the roots of the nation. He grasped that the external justification for the “peculiar institution” of slavery, or the so-called “rights” of slave owners to own human beings was the central precept that Blacks were not human. Lincoln realized this twisted justification was a challenge to the ideals upon which America was founded. And even though atheists, secular-humanists, and those who use religion as a cloak dispute the reality that America was founded upon the Judeo-Christian heritage, the nation was “conceived in Liberty and dedicated to the proposition that all men were created equal.” Lincoln got this.

Babies in the womb, and now even newborn infants are seen as “non-human” abortion “rights” advocates. It is a similar argument, just re-packaged for new victims. Just the evil premise of the marketing slogan, “My body, my choice,” has the built in notion that the baby in the mother is not another human being struggling to survive in the womb. But, it also reinforces the concept held in this nation that my slave, my choce, not theirs. Such concepts are totally rooted in arrogance and ignorance. Those who claim to be “religious” and yet, supported slavery were absolutely in the worng. By the same token, those who claim to be “religious” and yet, support abortion are in a state of confusion and ignorance.

Those who claim to hold onto the self-evident truths proclaimed in the Declaration of Independence and can still believe in abortion on demand are utterly conflicted, and may not realize they are not true Americans. Those who claim to believe in the proposition that Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of happiness were God-given rights and can still believe in abortion on demand do not know God.

It is time that those who profess to be “religious” and yet support abortion, to come to terms with their real motivation for supporting mothers killing their creations. This practice in America is so much worse than the government mandate in ancient Egypt to have the Jewish midwives murder the newborn male children of the Hebrews. Many Americans who have dared to investigate the roots of the current abortion industry realize there is an element of stifling or destroying Black populations, which was a similar motivation behind the Pharaoh’s decree – to  reduce the population of the Hebrew people. Several ancient civilizations have accepted the ‘normalcy’ of killing babies, or the practice of infanticide.

In such a time as this, America has been brought to a place of accepting the ‘normalcy’ of killing babies. The illusion that the Supreme Court abolished abortion persists. It made no such ruling. Abortion is still legal in this nation; one just has to choose the right state in which to be sexually promiscouos. While Christians can be proud of the Supreme Court justices who made the Roe v. Wade decision null and void, corruption, immorality, and sexual depravity are still alive and well in America. The Dobb’s Supreme Court decision is indeed to be celebrated, one more successful victory in the greater war for the soul of Americans. ‘We the People’ of faith need to reverse trajectory from One America Over God and return America to One Nation Under God.
