From Our Founder…
The month of February has long been designated as Black History Month, but the original purpose of instituting a special day to remember Black History was that it was essentially being ignored for a long time. In 2019, the MSM is ignoring many of the events that are critical issues of our day. It is true that one of the greatest Americans was Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr., yet the MSM and the Left have ignored the reality that he was more than just the founder of a secular movement for black Americans’ civil rights. Dr. King was genuinely a man of God. The man, the minister, was intensely focused upon helping all Americans – black as well as white.
This week, we feature a sermon from Rev. Dr. King demonstrating a serious concern he had – way back in 1954 – that Americans were forgetting God. Dr. King’s words are not that difficult to interpret. Yet, they are as important in 2019 as they were in 1954 – maybe even more so. We feature articles this week about a concern that President Trump expressed in his SOTU address last week: the “new calls to adopt socialism in our country.”
The array of articles this week take a look at the reality of Socialism as opposed to genuine answers to the man-made invention of Socialism or Communism. A couple of the articles this week reposts from last year because they fit with our focus at this time.
Whether Americans like it or not, God has not abandoned the United States just yet. Rev. Dr. King’s relationship with God and his understanding of the Bible is a model for all Americans. Indeed, all Americans matter, even those yet to be born, but Americans need to re-learn the essence of all that matters, as we stand and work to reverse the calls to adopt socialism in America.
Venezuela: An Aberration or an Abomination?
Intelligent people with common sense need to ask why did so many professionals flee Cuba to the U.S. when Fidel Castro finally took over that nation in 1959?
By Dennis Jamison –February 11, 2019
Last Tuesday, President Trump finally was able to deliver the official State of the Union address to the American people, and in his speech, he referred to Venezuela. He declared that “We stand with the Venezuelan people in their noble quest for freedom, and that the “United States officially recognized the legitimate government of Venezuela, and its new interim President, Juan Guaido.” Looking at the faces of many of the elected representatives and senators that were shown during the voicing of this support, it could be detected that there were several elected officials who were disappointed in U.S. support of Venezuela and Guaido. Yet, many appeared ready to throw a fit when Trump stated emphatically “Tonight, we renew our resolve that America will never be a socialist country.”
Mission to Cuba
By George Palmer 11/28/18
Recently, I returned from my 12th short-term mission to Cuba. Groups from my church ranging from 10 to 15 people have been doing this for about 16 years, each time leaving on a Friday and returning on the following Friday.
The primary purpose is to work on the building of a church. We are permitted to go to Cuba on religious visas and, in the last few years, on special visas as well. Rules governing relations between the U.S. and Cuba also allow us to bring in a few thousand dollars to acquire building materials. On top of that, we bring in some tools, paint brushes, work gloves and assorted work items. Much to the Cuban’s delight, we do not bring them back.
What Matters is Behavior
By Michael J. Lewinski 02/08/19
Sebastian Gorka recently wrote, “No debate would be needed, really. In the choice between the two competing models the Judeo-Christian civilization has given us, with Socialist arguments for “big government” on the one side and a market-oriented system that favors the freedoms of the individual over the powers of the state on the other, there would be no contest.”
Because what matters is behavior. Look at the behavior of President Trump and contrast that with Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi. On the negotiations over the boarder wall President Trump offered concessions that appealed to Democrats to get a deal done. Ms. Pelosi said no and did not respond with a counteroffer. She offered nothing.
The Biblical Chicken Before the Constitutional Egg
Pastor Earl Wallace – 11/26/2018
America only can be restored through a mass revival that sees people converted so that citizens begin to apply the Bible to civics. In the effort, it is important to get the Biblical chicken before the Constitutional egg. Coming to Christ is the patriotic thing to do in a nation that has stated in its founding documents that we have inalienable rights that come from our Creator! One must believe in God the Creator to be a true American whose values and outlook is consistent with that of the Founders who God used to birth our beloved United States of America.
America was founded upon the application of the Bible to civics. There are Ten Commandments and there are ten original amendments in the Bill of Rights. Each of these original amendments are designed to compel people in government to treat “We-the-People” according to the Ten Commandments. The Declaration of Independence says God, our Creator, endows each of us with unalienable rights. Thomas Aquinas called these rights our “natural decalogue rights.” America’s founders understood that through the Ten Commandments, God secures our rights to not be murdered (#6), sexually mistreated (#7), stolen from (#8), lied to or about, nor slandered (#9), and to not have our persons, people, position or possessions coveted (#10) by people who would use government power to deny us the blessings God provides for us.
‘BIBLE LITERACY’ COURSES ARE SWEEPING ACROSS THE COUNTRY RIGHT NOW, GIVING PUBLIC STUDENTS THE OPPORTUNITY TO STUDY THE BIBLE
Jason Yates, My Faith Votes
Efforts to infuse “Bible literacy” courses into the public school system have garnered so much attention, President Donald Trump is tweeting about the topic. Trump lauded the idea of “giving students the option of studying the Bible” in school. President Trump tweeted, “Numerous states introducing Bible Literacy classes, giving students the option of studying the Bible. Starting to make a turn back? Great!” The President’s tweet came not long after Fox News’ “Fox & Friends” aired a segment reporting on the “Bible literacy” bills that have been introduced in six state legislatures. This year, such proposals are under consideration in North Dakota, Missouri, Indiana, West Virginia, Virginia and Florida. The “Bible literacy” proposals would “require or encourage public schools to offer elective classes on the Bible’s literary and historical significance,” according to a USA Today report. Kentucky Gov. Matt Bevin signed legislation in June 2017, paving the way for similar courses in public education.
