CSN Newsletter 5/19/2020 – Religious Freedom Under Attack from All Sides
From Our Founder…
5/19/20 – Just as we were putting this Tuesday’s issue together, our Editor-in-Chief, Judy Palmer, notified me that the Christian apologist from India, Ravi Zacharias, had passed away. He lost his battle with cancer despite his desire to recover and carry on his work as head of head of Ravi Zacharias International Ministries. It caused me to pause for a while in silence as he was a great teacher, and the world will truly miss such a man of God. Yet, I realized that the same type of cancer that conquered him also took my wife’s life.
And, in this terrible time of the “Angel of Death” passing through the world, there are many who succumb to COVID-19, or to the complications that the disease brings to pre-existing medical conditions. There are near or over 300,000 deaths from COVID-19 worldwide (depending on the source). Yet, the statistics regarding the severity of the lack of severity of this disease do not truly help a single family, or an international community of those who followed Ravi Zacharias, to deal completely with the loss of even a single human being. We will offer our Sunday edition to share a bit more about this a man of God.
Our edition today has a more intense focus on the issue of religious freedom and the dangers of losing religious liberty in this turbulent time. As the Springtime is coming back to America, the citizens in many states are under severe legal restraints to exercise their freedoms – even just freedom to move about the country. This past Sunday a wave of churches across the country opened for in-person services. It was part of an effort called “Peaceably Gather Sunday” where ministers and their congregations were hoping to open up a middle ground between balancing health and safety concerns against the coronavirus and worshipping without those severe restrictions.
Pastor Brian Gibson of HIS Church, in Owensboro, KY, and Amarillo, Texas, launched an online petition for churches to join with him. Pastor Earl Wallace, who writes for the CSN newsletter was a speaker at a rally in Lynchburg, Virginia last Saturday. A gathering of ministers and other citizens met for the “Virginia Call for Prayer and Repentance.” Once again, churches are leading the way to hold on to the liberties American citizens have up to now, so casually enjoyed.
This shift in sentiments in regular grassroots American citizens is being prompted by increasing awareness of the various threats to our fundamental freedoms. We are no longer in a position to believe that we can always have it our way. If citizens want to keep their rights they have to first appreciate the value of those freedoms; then they have to be as serious (perhaps even moreso) as the Founding Fathers to secure these rights. Those who already realize this are already in a state of action doing what they can to hold on to the self-evident truths for which our Founders gave their lives, and for which others offered everything for the sake of the future generations.
Having expressed that, our first two articles do not deal with the infringement upon religious liberty. They deal with broader issues of the day. First is an open memo from Gen. Michael Flynn’s attorney, Sydney Powell to former President Barack Obama. We also share an open letter to Gov. Kevin Stitt of Oklahoma from a concerned mother. Both express something important for regular grassroots Americans to be aware of in the times in which we live.
This week, author, Kevin McCarthy provides a clear glimpse into how the Left views the people of faith and religious liberty. He starts out with Bernie Sanders and the “Social Democrats” way of dealing with religious liberty and the Left’s perception of such a concept. It is very instructing.
My article delves into this attack on religious freedoms from various angles. There are overt attacks, like the arresting of ministers for preaching in their churches, or holding a service in defiance of lockdown mandates. And there are attacks from the court system, which is often the covert effort because citizens don’t pay attention to the precedents made in lower court cases. It isn’t a given that a majority of citizens even pay attention to Supreme Court cases; and sadly, the majority may not even understand the Constitution or the Bill of Rights.
This week we also welcome a new writer to CSN, Howard Self, who writes a detailed account of how a D.C. Superior Court case involving a minority religion, turned into a travesty of justice within the corrupt D.C. judicial system. It provides an insight into the dangers of how the Swamp can swallow our liberties by establishing precedents that often go unnoticed. It gives one a more clear understanding of how the Flynn case or the impeachment effort can develop in a cesspool of corruption.
We also feature an article from Michael Lewinski who wonders for all of us in his latest article whether the future generations of Americans will curse us for our failures in this time. The Bible offers several warnings that the sins of the fathers will rest upon the heads of their sons.
In light of all the articles and videos on violations of our religious freedoms, a special suggestion is made to check out the video of FOX News interview with Sydney Powell in relation to the case against Gen. Michael Flynn. It explains so much from the perspective of a great lady – one good to have on your side in a battle. We offered her open memorandum, but watch the video.

Re: Your Failure to Find Precedent for Flynn Dismissal
Regarding the decision of the Department of Justice to dismiss charges against General Flynn, in your recent call with your alumni, you expressed great concern: “there is no precedent that anybody can find for someone who has been charged with perjury just getting off scot-free. That’s the kind of stuff where you begin to get worried that basic — not just institutional norms — but our basic understanding of rule of law is at risk.”
Here is some help—if truth and precedent represent your true concern. Your statement is entirely false. However, it does explain the damage to the Rule of Law throughout your administration.
First, General Flynn was not charged with perjury—which requires a material false statement made under oath with intent to deceive.1 A perjury prosecution would have been appropriate and the Rule of Law applied if the Justice Department prosecuted your former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe for his multiple lies under oath in an investigation of a leak only he knew he caused.
Dear Governor Stitt,
First off, I’d like to thank you for your leadership. I can imagine the difficult decisions you have had to make and would like to think that these decisions have been made in all sincerity. However, I am writing you concerning this crisis which I believe was both induced and unduly exacerbated by the media, creating what I believe to have set a precedent that has raised several concerns which I will explain below. . .
It is my concern that this moment in time and pause in our lives will have lasting consequences. By the grace and blessings of our Heavenly Father, we have been blessed in many ways through this quarantine. The only person in the family that has been greatly affected is my son, Gabriel. He has been prevented from continuing his training in Men’s Gymnastics by the restrictions that are still in place and the fact that the gym has been closed for two months. Last year in his division, he won all-round at the Missouri Winter Games, was Arkansas State Champion and this year won all-round at The Bart Connor Invitational.
The Left and Religious Freedom
By Kevin McCarthy 5/18/2020
At a 2017 Senate confirmation hearings for the White House Office of Management and Budget, President Trump’s nominee for Deputy-Director, Russell Vought was confronted by Senator Bernie Sanders. Sanders, with all the faux drama of the Joe McCarthy hearings, produced an excerpt of an article written by Vought for the conservative website, The Resurgent.
In the piece, Vought wrote in defense of his alma mater, Wheaton College. At the time, Wheaton had been faced with criticism for having terminated political science professor, Larycia Hawkins. Professor Hawkins had expressed, in a post on Facebook, that she believed Christians and Muslims “worship the same God.” Wheaton college, a strongly evangelical Christian college, took exception with her statement, viewing it as a breach of its core values, which led to her termination.
In his defense of Wheaton’s action against the professor, Vought had written the following:
“Muslims do not simply have a deficient theology. They do not know God because they have rejected Jesus Christ his Son, and they stand condemned.”
Despot-like Government Shutdowns: Only One Threat to Religious Freedom
By Dennis Jamison May 19, 2020
This past Sunday a wave of churches across the country opened for in-person worship services. It was part of an effort called “Peaceably Gather Sunday” where ministers and their respective congregations were seeking to hold a middle ground in balancing health and safety concerns against the coronavirus and still hold worship services without restrictions. These citizens are seeking a more religious path to deal with the shutdown of businesses, life as we have known it, and the threats to basic civil liberties—especially the right to worship God. People are also truly stressed over the loss of their jobs and their livelihoods, and their faith oftentimes gives them hope.
In Lynchburg, Virginia last Saturday a gathering of ministers met for the “Virginia Call for Prayer and Repentance.” Many in the church are becoming agitated over the loss of their right to attend their churches even when proper precautions are taken. Many ministers all across the country are concerned about the loss of religious freedom. And if such deeply revered freedoms are at risk in the United States, is it a sign of the loss of the Land of Liberty?
Where are the defenders of our loss of freedoms? Where is the ACLU when many Americans are currently distressed over their loss of civil liberties? In truth, many Americans lost their trust in such an overtly partisan “front group” long ago. Essentially, the ACLU is just a “non-essential” organization now. Consider their partisan “Emergency Declaration” to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic:
Religious freedom is under threat in the courtroom
By Howard C. Self, 5/14/2020
May 14 (UPI) — There is growing concern in our nation about the unconstitutional overreach of the judiciary in religious affairs. In courtrooms around the country, activist judges are rendering judgments that are collectively eroding the right to religious freedom protected by the First Amendment. The commissions formed to oversee the appointments of these judges are often failing to hold them accountable.
One such travesty is playing out in our nation’s capital. Judge Laura Cordero of the Washington, D.C. Superior Court issued an unconstitutional summary judgment ruling in the case 2011 CA 003721 B, which effectively gave legitimacy to one religious faction over another in an ongoing schism within the Unification Movement founded by the Rev. Sun Myung Moon. Entering its ninth year, the case explicitly involves questions of religious polity, structure and theology.
Future Generations Cursing Us?
By Michael J. Lewinski 5/18//2020
Progressives will never give up. Pension bailouts, money for Planned Parenthood, money for the National Endowment for the Arts and Humanities, billions for the Post Office, and $10,000 student loan forgiveness are a few items on their 1,800 page wish list on their new Socialist spending spree.
The things they want to do have nothing to do with beating COVID-19 or saving our economy. Democrats know the list won’t become law, but will use their list extensively on the campaign trail. They devote nearly $1 trillion to state, local, territorial and tribal governments and establish a $200 billion “Heroes Fund” to extend hazard pay to essential workers. This fund would also send a second – and larger – round of direct payments to individual Americans, up to $6,000 per household.
Other parts of the bill would increase nutrition assistance benefits by 15 percent and provide $175 billion in housing assistance, among other things. They want to give money to illegal aliens who are competing with 30 million recently laid off American workers for jobs.
