Jesus Declares: I Am the Light of the World; the Truth Shall Make You Free

The Greatest Commandment

One of the teachers of the law came and heard them debating. Noticing that Jesus had given them a good answer, he asked him, “Of all the commandments, which is the most important?”

The most important one,” answered Jesus, “is this: ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.[e] 30 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.”

Well said, teacher,” the man replied. “You are right in saying that God is one and there is no other but him. To love him with all your heart, with all your understanding and with all your strength, and to love your neighbor as yourself is more important than all burnt offerings and sacrifices.”

When Jesus saw that he had answered wisely, he said to him, “You are not far from the kingdom of God.” And from then on no one dared ask him any more questions.            Mark 12:28-34 (NIV)

Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Mill Valley: Holy Spirit, Living Breath of God (Keith and Kristyn Getty)

Today is “Halloween,” a most unusual holiday that is celebrated, not only in the United States, but around the world. It is a holiday long considered a pagan holiday by religious

Authorities from ancient Christian times to the current time, but the message I will share today is dealing with the spirit of a different nature. The message for today is about the Spirit of God, or the Holy Spirit that Christians refer to as part of the Holy Trinity, which came out of the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church. In reality, the Spirit of God is not universally understood or even unambiguously defined within the realms of religious circles — especially, Christian denominations. But, Halloween provides as good as any backdrop with which to share about the Holy Spirit. In fact, it may provide a real distinct contrast to the evil spirits emanating from the traditions of the Halloween holiday.

I’ve written about the history of Halloween before, and in this message, I draw upon that

history to explain a bit about the origins of the holiday. But, the essence of my LightWing message is a personal testimony of my encounter with the Holy Spirit and a subsequent rebirth experience. I may have shared bits and pieces of my personal testimony before, though this message is a more full account, and one which includes a broader viewpoint of the value of the Holy Spirit in such a time as this. My perspective is not a theoretical construct, or a philosophical musing of something that might be. I experienced such a phenomenon without initially intending it. It was such a phenomenon that caused me to change my life – I was turned right side up. But, it took a great deal of study, a sincere effort to understand and bring meaning to the “shocking” experience.

I do not intend the message to be taken casually. It is my witness indeed, and my own personal experience; however, I believe such an experience can happen to anyone in the correct set of circumstances. I believe this because I believe God is seeking a true and loving relationship with all of His children. The experience was genuine, and I can remember it vividly although it happened well over 30 years ago. Yet, the foundation for others would have to be a sincere seeking to know God in a more intimate way than just through words written in a book. God is a living God, and lives beyond the Bible. If this were not so, God’s Providence would not have advanced past the first century.

The purpose of writing my testimony is not to call attention to myself, but to provide a witness to the fact that God is searching for all of His children. He is a loving Heavenly Father, who wants to live with all of His children. That has been His motivation from the time of the creation of humanity. Yet, Adam and Eve refused to live according to the basic “rules” of life — maybe more important to realize is that they chose not to live by the basic rules of love. What Jesus said two thousand years ago about the greatest of the “Commandments,” is the most powerful motivation for us to re-connect back with God in this time, to be “reborn.” And, to live in love with our Heavenly Father, and to live in love with one another is the foundation for the Kingdom of God. We can choose to allow Him to live with us, or we can continue on our present trajectory and live in Hell.

It is my hope you could read my message, but I warn you: it is long. I needed to blend the concepts of such a holiday and the various images it conjures up with the opposite image. It is still our choice: we can live in a fake world of pretend and make believe that is often filled with fear and evil, or we can live with God as our Heavenly Father. It is a very stark contrast. But, look where we are. It is pretty scary right now; yet, our future is in our hands — literally. It always has been. I would hope that you not only read my long message, but that you would take some steps to improve your small portion of the world and allow Heavenly Father to take dominion over at least that small “kingdom.” It begins with the capability each of us have to be re-born, getting rid of Ego, and letting God in.

The “Message of Light” endeavor had been part of the “David Project” that originated as a genuine inspiration from our Heavenly Father, initiated to bring Light into the dark in this time. The project developed from 2018, and as we approach our third anniversary of existence, we have formally elevated the “David Project” to the more formal “LightWing Mission,” my personal ministry, which I had announced in previous messages.

These messages are freely offered and sent to you as part of the “LightWing Mission.” Please receive today’s messages as a gift from those who care. They are only words being offered, freely; yet, some contain a deep message of faith, or a much deeper expression of heart that readers can hopefully receive into their lives. As it has been written: “Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.” Proverbs 29:18 – KJV

May we humble ourselves, seek God’s Mind and His Heart and His Life-giving Energy of Love, and truly seek His Will for humanity in this time. May we determine to: Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’ and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.

Powerful Benefits of Daily Communion With Holy Spirit — Charisma Magazine

“The Spirit of God and Life-giving Energy”

By Dennis Jamison

October 31st marks the ancient tradition of Halloween and the rituals, from dressing up like goblins and ghouls to transforming their homes into haunts. Then there is the tradition of sending the kids out to collect candy from their neighbors.

People seldom question such annual rituals; they just do them as year after year such rituals are repeated, yet few celebrants really know how this all got started. The truth is that there are several theories about the origins of Halloween, but few tangible facts.

Nevertheless, despite the lack of hard proof, it does not stop the brave from developing theories of how Halloween originated.

Developing over thousands of years, it is difficult to pinpoint an exact starting point for the more modern traditions of the holiday. One way historians or archaeologists develop their theories about ancient peoples is by using common or familiar reference points in human cultures. In that manner, it is possible to gain a bit better understanding of the origins of Halloween by using some familiar points of reference.

One popular perception today is that Halloween “evolved” from ancient people in Ireland thousands of years ago. One of the four ancient Celtic holidays known as Samhain (as pronounced Sa-wain, Sah-ween, or Sah-win – depending on Irish or Gaelic dialects) is more than likely the closest holiday connected to the ancient origins of Halloween.

Samhain can be translated as “November” in Irish, but more specifically means “summer’s end.”

While there is little knowledge to indicate how old such a celebration is, popular theory is that it was a simple harvest festival at the end of the summer months, a time when the people would collectively prepare for the arduous winter months ahead.

For a more realistic understanding of the preparation for winter in ancient Ireland, it is important to note that many early European writers considered Ireland as a land of ice and snow. In 1992, James Romm published “The Edges of the Earth in Ancient Thought” exploring that ancient world.

Learned men considered Ireland the outer boundary of the civilized world. It was Julius Caesar who was the first to call Ireland by the name of “Hibernia,” which is Latin for “winterland.”

Later writers also portrayed the “Emerald Isle” as a land of ice and snow. This may have been a bit exaggerated due to lack of actual first-hand experience. However, winter may have been able to drag on for six full months.

Ireland lies in more northern latitudes, similar to Canada and those winters could be harsh. In preparing for the prospect of months of a bitter cold Celtic winter, the ancient people of Ireland would gather together at the end of the summer months and get ready for the coming winter season. In such ancient times, the scary part was whether people would be able to survive the harsh winters. Thus, Samhain was important as many who gathered could not be completely sure that they would survive until the coming Spring.

The initial holiday eventually became connected to honoring the dead by letting them celebrate in the festivities also. The spirits of those who had died were invited to return — but some of those spirits were not good — some were as mean and terrible as they had been when they were alive… and that is entirely understandable without God in their lives.

Halloween is not much like it was all those centuries ago. It seems to be even worse. Yet, the Christians did their best to dismantle and bury this pagan holiday. This concept of the spiritual nature of a human being has been relegated to this or similar traditions of various ancient peoples. Today, most scientifically-oriented individuals do not believe in the spirit realms because modern science has not been able to identify spirit, or more specifically to measure or quantify it. So, those who prioritize science have trouble with the dimension or the world of spirits.

Though there are many who do not believe in spirits, to those who have experienced spiritual phenomenon, the spiritual realm, the spirit world is very real — yet most people who have experienced it find it very hard to explain, while most prefer not to talk about it. Yet, for religious people, especially Christians, there must be an acknowledgement that the spiritual aspect of human beings is very real. God is spirit and invisible to humanity.

Even Christians today, although many refer to the Holy Spirit or the Spirit of God, in my experience, few have truly had a personal experience of the Holy Spirit, or of any spirit, whatsoever. Or, they keep it to themselves. There are those who, to their credit, do talk about their experiences and do convey a great deal on a much deeper level about God and the Holy Spirit or spiritual experiences. But, for the most part, the age of science dominates; so, there is a more intellectual grasp of God’s universal principles, and less an emphasis upon this spiritual dimension.

It may be because of the dominion of science that although most Christians will be cognizant of the “rebirth experience,” and they acknowledge it as a reality, personal experience demonstrates that many Christians have not had a rebirth experience even though those who are considered “true Christians are those who have supposedly been “reborn.” For many, it is an intellectual acceptance of the truths of “Christian” concepts, or an embrace of the moral teachings of Jesus that causes them to be “re-born.” It also may have something to do with what Jesus said about not getting into Heaven, if one was not re-born.

This rebirth is directly referred to by Jesus on different occasions. One famous occasion is recorded in the book of John, chapter 3.

Come, Follow Me — New Testament Lesson 7 | The Interpreter Foundation

You Must Be Born Again

“Now there was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews. This man came to Jesus by night and said to him, “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher come from God, for no one can do these signs that you do unless God is with him.”

Jesus answered him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”

Nicodemus said to him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born?”

Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit,   he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.  Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’ The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.”

Nicodemus said to him, “How can these things be?”

Jesus answered him, “Are you the teacher of Israel and yet you do not understand these things? Truly, truly, I say to you, we speak of what we know, and bear witness to what we have seen, but you do not receive our testimony. If I have told you earthly things and you do not believe, how can you believe if I tell you heavenly things? “ John 3:1-12

Honestly, Jesus could not get the concept across to Nicodemus, who was an intelligent man and a leader of the Jewish people. However, I am often amazed by people who are Christians or Jewish that also do not comprehend the depth of this concept in their hearts. They are able to intellectually grasp the concept of rebirth,, but they had not got the concept settled within their own hearts. Like Nicodemus, in all honesty, my personal experience is that I could only understand it with my mind – intellectually.

At least, until a woman of God came knocking upon my door one day, after I had moved back to my home city upon graduating college. She happened to be more clever than I, and since I proclaimed that I was an atheist, she asked whether I had proven that God did not exist. I asked why I needed to do such a thing, and she explained that since I was so sure of myself, I must have proven that God did not exist, at least to myself. However, she did wonder whether I had actually gone to such lengths. And, since I had not ever thought of doing such a thing, I explained that it seemed ridiculous to prove something didn’t exist, if it didn’t exist. Her point was that if I had not proven that God didn’t exist, (even just to myself) how was I to be so absolutely sure. So, I was hooked into a serious challenge and a deal. If I could prove that God didn’t exist, she would no longer continue to bother me with such nonsense. But, I let her set the parameters of the “experiment.”

Knowing my attitude that I was an atheist, she made the best possible challenge to my ego. I was going to prove to myself, once and for all, that God did not exist, and then I’d be truly satisfied, and I could go on with my hedonistic, self-centered lifestyle. It seemed a good deal to me at the time. The parameters of the “experiment” were that I had to go into an empty room and kneel down in prayer and have a conversation with this “make believe” being, and when I had satisfied myself that such nonsense had no significance other than making a fool of myself talking to the walls of an empty room, I could then be able to safely and smugly conclude that God did not exist. My thought at the time was that even if He did exist, and did not answer, He was a rude god to not answer a sincere request to show Himself if He were real. So, either way, I had all bets covered because I

wanted nothing to do with a rude and impolite god. Yet, I had no idea what I was about to experience.

The operant word in this entire experiment was “sincere” approach to talk with God, and I was the one in control of the level, or the degree, of genuine sincerity with which I had to conduct the experiment. At some point in this “ridiculous” exercise of talking to the walls in an empty room, I decided to move to a deeper level of sincerity to “legitimize” my genuine proof. As the words began to change coming from my mouth, I noticed the “sincerity meter” in my mind began to shift from insincere pretense of showing outward signs of an attempt to talk to some imaginary spirit, to a genuine appeal to really know if there was a god out there who had any concern for someone making such an attempt to know whether He existed or not.

And, as I observed the “sincerity meter” shifting, I began to experience a strange tingling in my body that I could only relate to electricity flooding into me. But, it was not a shock type of electricity, which could jolt people physically and throw them from one side of the room to another. I had experienced electric shocks in a number of dramatic ways before. Yet, this “electricity” was more of a kinder, gentler type of energy. In a moment, I was sensing the energy flowing over me, around me, and flowing inside of me. It was unbelievable – especially for an atheist. I felt embraced by this energy, but it was also inside of me.

Tears came as I felt so much love, and at the same time I felt embarrassment. I was on some kind of emotional ride, not of my choice, but a door had been opened within me, and I had no idea of what was happening. I was just receiving it, accepting it, much like a baby would be in the arms of a parent. I was bathing in the pure energy of love. When it all subsided, I was in absolute awe. I had never experienced such a phenomenon in  my life up to that point – ever. I had to know what had just happened.

The clever woman of God explained that what I described was a “rebirth experience,” which I did not understand. But, I wanted to understand; I needed to understand! This experience opened me to something that was quite foreign to me. Somehow, for His own reasons, God’s Spirit caused a door in my cold heart to open, and He poured His love out upon me and poured it into me. And, I could not stop it for the life of me; all I could do was receive this incredible energy of love that I found myself immersed in at that moment in my life. So, this is how I came to know that the Spirit of God is not just an intellectual construct. The spirit realms are real and God’s Spirit can go where it wills – even into the hearts of atheists and agnostics.

After my experience with the Holy Spirit in such a powerfully emotional manner, once I

understood, I had to surrender to Heavenly FatherWe are all His children. He is seeking all of us in a similar way. The question is whether we seek Him as desperately. One has to ask: Who left whom? Humanity left God. For Christians, Jesus made it plain; we need to: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’ and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.” When we do this with genuine sincerity, His love comes to us and will flow through us. We need to focus on God’s Spirit and not evil spirits. We need to breathe in God’s Spirit into our minds and hearts and let us return His love and complete the circuit of life-giving energy.

May the good, godly spirits pay you a visit on this Halloween Day, and hopefully, we all can begin to turn the holiday around into a more God-oriented and life celebrating type of holiday. Such a holiday needs to be resurrected from the promotion of death and so little value placed upon life. If people can be born again, people can give rebirth to an all too contorted or distorted holiday that likely originated as a way of celebrating life.
