Russians aren’t the only ones undermining US democracy

SAN JOSE, CA January 8, 2017  – Recently stable relations between the Obama Administration and the government of Vladimir Putin have been severely strained due to charges that the Russian government has seriously interfered with the outcome of the presidential election in the United States in 2016. Now the long-awaited intelligence report that Obama ordered has been de-classified, and light is being shed upon such shadowy operations.

This past Friday, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence released the declassified the report on Russian-orchestrated interference with the 2016 election, which reveals that official U.S. intelligence agencies conclude that the intent was to discredit Hillary Clinton.

Apparently, all three intelligence agencies, the CIA, FBI, and the NSA have concurred that the intent of Vladimir Putin and his government was to undermine Democrat Hillary Clinton’s real chances of winning the election. The National Intelligence report determined that “Russia’s goals were to undermine public faith in the U.S. democratic process, denigrate Secretary Clinton, and harm her electability and potential presidency.” Unfortunately, there has been  no report ordered by any U.S. government officials to determine how the two major political parties perpetually “undermine public faith in the U.S. democratic process.” This is overdue.

Another long overdue investigation into undermining the democratic process is the U.S. Congress investigating the Obama Administration’s efforts to undermine the 2015 elections in Israel, which is essentially the epitome of governmental hypocrisy. An article by The Washington Times’ Stephen Dinan in July of 2016 reported the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations had concluded Obama’s State Department “paid hundreds of thousands of dollars in taxpayers grants to an Israeli group that used the money to build a campaign to oust Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu….”

Dinan’s article revealed that around $350,000 in tax dollars was channeled to OneVoice, an organization reputedly working to support efforts to back Israeli-Palestinian peace negotiations. But, “OneVoice used the money to build a voter database, train activists and hire a political consulting firm with ties to President Obama’s campaign — all of which set the stage for an anti- Netanyahu campaign.” The disconcerting subcurrent in all of this is that there have been few denials from the Party that the information that was disseminated by the Russian hackers was not correct. So, do the latest revelations regarding Russian interference in the U.S. election indicate a form of political kharma reaped by the “Democratic” Party in 2016?

There is an old common sense aphorism that warns: “People who live in glass houses should not throw stones!” Such wisdom seems highly applicable in light of the latest U.S. intelligence revelations on the 2016 election. Since this is all out in the open now, it seems to be a given that contemporary governments with the means to undermine other nation’s legal elections, will do so, and without penalty. It also seems to be a given that contemporary governments with the means to generate shadowy influence in political decisions of foreign governments, can get away with interfering in domestic affairs of sovereign nations. However, this may be too much information  as pursuing this line of thought would eventually lead to the actual content of the WikiLeaks information that revealed Secretary Clinton was receiving money from foreign governments to peddle their influence within the U.S.

Ironically, the CIA, FBI, and the NSA do not have any serious authorization from the Obama Administration to investigate Obama’s anti-Constitutional approach to governing the American people. In a stunning finding by theSenate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations with respect to the meddling of Obama’s State Department,OneVoice even informed the State Department’s top diplomat in Jerusalem of its efforts to undermine the 2015 elections in Israel.

Stephen Dinan’s piece explained that “Consul General Michael Ratney, claims never to have seen them. He said he regularly deleted emails with large attachments — a striking violation of open-records laws for a department already reeling from former Secretary Hillary Clinton’s handling of official government records.”

Unfortunately, the overtly obvious bungling of the FBI investigations of the Clinton violations appeared to be a travesty of justice; yet, in light of that, why would Obama’s direct employees be held to any genuine standards of justice when they are the violators? This all begs the real question:  Who can the American people hold accountable when their faith in the democratic process is undermined? In reality, it may very well be that this may be one of the reasons why Americans elected Donald Trump.

No other foreign power has to serve as the goat for undermining public faith in the American democratic process; in fact, the two major political parties do not need any help with this, they are continually demonstrating their expertise in this respect. That is one major reason why Congress has such an anemic approval rating – and that is not limited to only one party.

The new Congress is in session now, and for now there may be a reprieve, but before Obama leaves the White House, and before Hillary Clinton runs for mayor of New York City, all kinds of intelligence operations should be initiated to help President Trump eradicate the shadowy, sleazy, and corrupt habits of the entrenched political class. That would do a great deal to restore American citizens’ confidence and faith in the U.S. democratic process.
